Anderson House sits on the outskirts of Invercargill, a testament to the generous spirit of one of the city's early prominent businessmen, Sir Robert Anderson. The house is a Category 1 Listed Historic Place.
The impressive Georgian-style residence is surrounded by 24 hectares of lawns, gardens and bush, maintained by Invercargill City Council as a public park. Walking tracks wind through native bush, including kahikatea, rimu, tōtara, mataī, miro and pokaka. Meanwhile, the formal gardens around the house are known for their display of seasonal colour, and the lawn areas are perfect for picnics and gatherings.
Anderson House and grounds were gifted to the city in 1951, and Anderson House Trust was established in 2019 to protect and preserve Sir Robert's vision for the property. He wanted to ensure it would continue to be enjoyed by the people of Invercargill for years to come.
Both Anderson House and areas of Anderson Park are available for hire.
